BFT Access Control Installation: The Burleson Owner’s Guide

We stock and install BFT-compatible access control components throughout Burleson, and a typical BFT keypad, card reader, or receiver swap runs $340 to $680 installed, depending on the part and wiring condition. Most access control replacements are done in one visit, often the same day you call. Owners usually discover a failed component when a keypad goes dark, a card reader stops accepting cards, or a remote that has worked for years suddenly does nothing.

If your BFT gate still opens with one device but not another, the problem is almost always in the access control system itself, not the operator. That is a repair we can diagnose over the phone and fix on-site. Call (469) 564-8046 and tell us which BFT model is on the gate and what stopped responding. We will get you squared away.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT has used a handful of access control platforms over the years, and the replacement part has to match the generation you own. The older Rigel and Phobos series use 433 MHz receivers with wire-in keypads. The newer Icaro, Deimos, and Aria lines moved to rolling-code receivers and often use the B.E.R.T. plug-in radio interface, now standard on most pads and readers we install. If your access control is built into a Clonix or Mitto remote system, the receiver board is a different part entirely from what a standalone keypad needs.

The fastest way to identify the right component is to open the operator cover and read the label on the receiver or control board. Write down the model number and the frequency printed on the sticker, usually 433.92 MHz, and we can match it before we roll a truck. Here in Burleson, we carry common BFT receivers, keypads, and card readers on the truck, so there is no second trip while we order a part.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: BFT makes a solid factory part, and for receivers and keypads we generally recommend staying with genuine BFT. Third-party clones exist, and we have pulled more than a few out of gates. They work for a while, then they drift or fail in a way that is hard to diagnose. A genuine BFT component costs a little more and lasts years longer in Texas sun and rain.

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing

  • Keypad lights up but the gate will not move. The keypad is sending a signal, but the receiver is not hearing it. In BFT systems this is usually a failed receiver board or a broken antenna wire, not the keypad itself.
  • Intermittent operation that gets worse when it rains. BFT components are generally well-sealed, but Burleson humidity and thunderstorms find any compromised gasket. Corrosion inside the receiver housing is a common culprit on older installs.
  • Card reader beeps but the gate stays closed. The reader is reading the card, so the problem sits between the reader and the control board. It may be a wiring issue, a dead relay, or a programming fault. A reader that has been outdoors for eight or ten years is usually due for replacement.
  • You have to press the remote five or six times before the gate responds. This is a classic dying receiver symptom. The range shrinks first, then the response gets laggy, then it stops entirely. It rarely fixes itself.
  • Programmed codes vanish for no reason. A failing memory chip or a control board with a weak battery backup will lose programming. If you have reprogrammed the keypad twice this year and codes keep disappearing, the access control board needs to be swapped.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Burleson homeowners, a complete BFT access control replacement, meaning the part, the labor, and the programming, typically lands between $340 and $680. A simple receiver swap sits at the lower end. A full keypad replacement with new weatherproofing and a fresh antenna run lands at the higher end. The spread comes down to how old the wiring is and whether we need to re-terminate corroded connections.

Every quote is given before work begins, with the exact installed price agreed up front. No hourly billing surprises, no add-ons after the fact. The work includes programming the new component, syncing it with your existing BFT operator and remotes, and a test cycle to make sure every entry method still works. The part and the labor are covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. Call (469) 564-8046 for a firm quote before we touch anything.

DIY or Call Us?

An access control component operates on low-voltage wiring, so the risk of a serious electrical shock is minimal compared to a line-voltage operator. The danger in DIY here is more subtle: a miswired keypad or receiver can send the gate into a fault state or burn out a control board that costs far more than the visit would have. BFT boards are not forgiving of crossed wires.

What you can safely do: check that the circuit breaker for the gate has not tripped, tighten any obviously loose wire nuts, and make sure a weed trimmer has not cut a low-voltage line near the gate posts. If that does not restore function, the responsible next step is to call someone who works on BFT every week. That is us. Call (469) 564-8046 and tell us what it is doing, and Victor Salinas will tell you what it needs, no guesswork, no runaround.
